ANNOUNCEMENT

Mr. Rusy M. SHROFF, BBS, MBE

Hong Kong Tuberculosis, Chest and Heart Diseases Association deeply regrets to announce the passing of Mr. Rusy M. SHROFF, BBS, MBE, Vice-President of the Association.  He was born on 23rd August 1917 and left us peacefully on 23rd November 2017 at the age of 100 years old.

Mr. R.M. Shroff joined the Association in 1972 as our Board member.  From 1975 to 1983 he served as Vice-Chairman, from 1983 to 2000 as Chairman and from 2000 to 2017 as Vice-President of the Association.  During his long and resourceful tenure, he was most instrumental in our various major development projects, such as the setting up of the Kwok Tak Seng Heart Centre at Grantham Hospital, making it a cardiac hospital of international acclaim, to plan and execute the redevelopment project of Ruttonjee Sanatorium turning it into a modern general hospital, converting the Freni Memorial Convalescent Home into the present Care and Attention Home caring for the elderly, setting up of Chinese Medicine services and the Hong Kong Tuberculosis Association Rusy M. Shroff Dental Clinic Limited to serve for the general public.

Before he passed away in late November 2017, he still remembered to help the needy. One of the major programme was a donation sum of HK$3 million in late August 2017 to Hong Kong East Cluster of Hospital Authority for setting up a new "pre-hospital 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) programme" for patients with clinical presentation of chest pain compatible with acute heart attack (acute myocardial infraction).  The programme can facilitate early diagnosis and shorten the time to definitive treatment and to improve the outcomes. Apart from this programme, Mr. Rusy M. SHROFF had also supported other projects like to donate another amount of HK$3 million to enhance the service of "Rusy M Shroff Cardiac Diagnostic Laboratory" for the public.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family members.

Mr. R.M. Shroff will live in our hearts with our love and affection.
