The design of good workstations is vital
to provide a healthy and comfortable working environment
for staff and creating sense of belonging.
Furniture
Design
The desk height should suit the height of the user.
Height of chairs should be conveniently adjustable
to suit individual body size.
Adequate
lighting
Normal office work requires light intensities of
around 300 - 500 Lux.
The light should be free from flickering and glare.
If glare exists, reposition or modify the light source
or change the orientation of the workstation to eliminate
it.
Higher lighting level is required for visual demanding
tasks, e.g. 750Lux is recommended for drawing offices.
Noise
Pollution
Photocopying can generate noise,
light, heat and hazardous gases, all of which can cause
adverse health effects to operators. Isolate the photocopying
area with an insulation board to reduce its impact on
the office environment.
Suitable
Temperature and Humidity
The room temperature and relative humidity
should be controlled at the comfortable level :
Room temperature :
23 - 26oC
(summer)
20 - 24oC
(winter)
Relative humidity: 40 - 70 %
Supply
of Fresh Air
Well Ventilated to maintain the supply of
fresh air.
